Perimenopause & Menopause Care in Westfield, NJ

Hormone and metabolic care from an endocrinologist, in person or by telehealth in NJ, NY & FL

EndoHealth MD offers perimenopause and menopause care led by Dr. Alessia Roehnelt, a double board-certified endocrinologist. Care includes a full hormone and metabolic evaluation, hormone therapy when appropriate, and a plan for weight, sleep, bone, and heart health.

Perimenopause is the transition before menopause, and it often begins in a woman's 40s. Menopause is reached after 12 months in a row without a period. Many women feel their worst during perimenopause, when hormone levels swing the most.

Is This Right for You?

Common reasons patients come to us

You may be a good fit if you have hot flashes or night sweats, trouble sleeping, brain fog, mood changes, irregular periods, or weight that is shifting to your middle even though your habits have not changed.

Many of our patients were told their labs are normal and nothing is wrong. We take the time to look at the whole picture.

How We Evaluate Your Hormones

Your symptoms matter as much as your labs

Care begins with a 60-minute consultation with Dr. Roehnelt. She reviews your symptoms, cycle history, medications, and family history. Hormone levels swing from day to day in perimenopause, so a single lab result does not tell the whole story.

Testing is chosen for you and may include thyroid function, blood sugar and insulin, cholesterol, and a bone density scan when needed. An InBody scan measures your muscle and body fat.

Hormone Therapy and Other Options

Matched to your health history and your goals

Hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats. In October 2026, the American College of Physicians recommended estrogen as the first-line treatment for these symptoms: estrogen with a progestogen for women who have a uterus, and estrogen alone for women who do not. For most healthy women under 60, or within 10 years of menopause, the benefits outweigh the risks. It is not right for everyone, and Dr. Roehnelt reviews your personal risks before recommending it.

Dr. Roehnelt prescribes bioidentical hormones. These are hormones with the same structure as the ones your body makes, such as estradiol and micronized progesterone. She uses FDA-approved versions whenever possible, and compounded options only when there is a medical reason, such as an allergy to an ingredient or a dose that isn't available otherwise. "Bioidentical" does not mean risk-free, so the same careful review of your health history applies.

Weight and Metabolism in Midlife

Why your body is changing

During the menopause transition, fat mass rises and muscle declines, and fat is stored more around the middle. Your shape, metabolism, and insulin sensitivity can change even when the scale moves slowly.

We track body composition over time and build a plan around strength training, protein, and sleep. When appropriate, this includes GLP-1 medications.
